Ben Barnes Politician

The LBJ School of Public Affairs has recognized Ben Barnes efforts to further higher education in the state of Texas with the creation of the Ben Barnes Fellowship in Public Leadership endowment.

The Ben Barnes Fellowship comes on the heels of the LBJ School’s attempts to increase fellowship support for students. This Barnes Fellowship will be used to attract students from across the nation who’ve shown an exceptional talent and interest in public leadership. LBJ School Dean Ed Dorn said this about Ben Barnes’ twenty-five years of improving higher education: “Ben Barnes did more for education in Texas than virtually any other state political leader. This endowment recognizes his continuing commitment to producing the leaders our state will need in the 21st century,” said Dorn.

Honoring Barnes and his recent fellowship were the distinguished Lady Bird Johnson, Bernard Rapoport, Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, President of the University of Texas at Austin Larry Faulkner and Dallas businessman Cappy McGarr.

Former Lt. Governor of Texas Ben Barnes can not be questioned regarding his devotion to higher education. As a politician Barnes did everything in his power to improve the quality of education in Texas and now as a lobbyist and businessman Barnes is still doing everything in his power to further the quality of all degrees of Texas education.
